BIG WAVES OF CHANGE AT HAND
We are living in times of substantial change. Most business owners get caught in a daze, paralyzed by the dramatic change in environment and ultimately they get crushed by the waves of change. A few find their way to the shoreline, a handful return to the water.
So are you doing it, doing it…..doing it?
I applaud any person who starts their own small business. Hey, I did it many years ago, first in Germany and then in Miami, FL.
What I did not realize for many years was, that I just created a job for myself. Of course, I could do it better then my old boss. If he/she can do it…..so can I. If he/she can be successful with all the mistakes he/she is doing ……imagine how I can run my own business…..so much better.
Well …. so I thought.
Curiosity in Business and Life
Curiosity has been given a bad rap. Perhaps we grew up hearing that asking questions was rude or conveyed ignorance, or that we’d get into trouble if we were like Curious George. We might even have been warned that “Curiosity killed the cat!”
The truth is that curiosity is one of the most vital and life-affirming qualities you can bring to your life and your relationships.
The Importance of Consistency
Here’s a truism to remember: rules and guidelines are meaningful only when they are followed…when they are enforced. So, when it comes to setting boundaries, stating your expectations of employees is only half the battle. The other half involves “delivering” on what you tell employees to expect from you. You must walk the talk. And the key to doing that is consistency – holding ALL the people accountable for following ALL the rules (boundaries), ALL the time.
